Best known for sculpting otters, Laurence carries the nomenclature as ‘The Otter Man of Skye’. At Isle Ornsay, where he has held summer exhibitions, Laurence saw otters swimming in the bay below the Gallery and learned of Gavin Maxwell, author of ‘Ring of Bright Water’, who dedicated much of his life to looking after and writing about these fascinating creatures. Laurence has since carved and modelled more than 100 otters, and has become joint president of the International Otter Survival Fund.
